Why convert

Safer now, easier later.

A tub-to-shower conversion is one of the most practical upgrades in an Arizona home.

  • No step-over

A curbless or low-curb entry removes the tub wall you step over every day.

  • Built-in safety

Grab bars, a bench, a handheld shower and slip-resistant tile, planned from the start.

  • More room

A shower in the tub’s footprint usually feels larger and brighter, with glass instead of a curtain.

  • Built to last

A tiled, waterproofed shower — not a liner over the old tub.

What a conversion includes

More than taking out the tub.

A walk-in shower conversion replaces your bathtub with a properly built shower: the tub comes out, the plumbing and drain are reworked, the floor and walls are waterproofed, and the shower is tiled and finished with glass.

We design the entry, bench, niches and grab-bar blocking together, so the finished shower is safe without looking clinical. Where the slab allows, we build a curbless entry; otherwise a low-profile curb keeps the step to a minimum.

Who walk-in shower conversions are for

Most of the conversions we build are for homeowners who want to stay in the home they love for years to come: retirees in Scottsdale, Sun City and across the Valley, families planning for an aging parent, and anyone tired of stepping over a tub they never use. Done well, a walk-in shower is also simply a better shower — larger, brighter and easier to clean.

Built properly, not lined

Quick “bath-fitter” style products slide an acrylic liner over the old tub or wall. We take a different approach: we remove the tub, rebuild the shower floor with a sloped, waterproofed pan, and tile it like any shower in a full remodel. It takes longer than a one-day swap, and it lasts like the rest of your house.

Permits, planning and price

Moving a drain or valve is plumbing work, and we handle the permits it requires. Every conversion starts with an in-home measure and a written price, so you know the cost before you commit. If you are updating the whole room, see bathroom remodeling and our master bathroom remodels. We build walk-in showers across the Phoenix metro — Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert and beyond. See the areas we serve, or visit our design showroom in Tempe.

Shower and bath clients

From homeowners who made the switch.

Our experience with Republic West was terrific from the moment we called them. They are very professional, courteous and budget conscious. Arthur’s designs exceeded our expectation, Kathy was invaluable in helping us pick our tile and fixtures and the teams that worked in our house were wonderful. We could not recommend them enough. Thank you!

Just a brief note to thank your organization for a very professional job, from the sales presentation to the superb installation, with outstanding project coordination. Selecting a company from the yellow pages is always a leap of faith, but you did exactly what you said you would do and when – a very rare occurrence today.

Your installers were always pleasant to have working in our home and had enthusiasm for each day’s challenges. They took the time to get each day’s work accomplished, often working later than I would have expected, and kept to the schedule that had been promised. One couldn’t ask for more than that.

  • Almost always. The tub’s footprint is usually large enough for a comfortable shower; we confirm drain location, wall framing and the slab during the in-home measure.
